Safety Manual Upgrade, Development & Review

The safety manual is the basis for any safety program. It allows a company to organize all of it's policies and forms in one area for all members of the company to have access to review the material and comply with all necessary policies and applicable legislation. The safety manual acts as an excellent reference for all safety training including new hire orientations, toolbox meetings, and hazard assessments. The manual needs to be constructed in a clear easy to read format to be an effective safety training tool. Lastly, the manual is the primary source of documentation during an audit. Having a clearly organized manual with all the required information allows the audit process go smoother.

Have contractors asked you if you have a Certificate of Recognition (COR)? A certificate of recognition is a safety program recognized by Alberta Employment, Immigration, and Industry. Several organizations like the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA), Alberta Municipal Health & Safety Association, and the Alberta Safety Council offer the training and resources to develop a safety program that complies with COR. The safety program demonstrates to other companies that your company will be able to work in a manner where all of your workers will go home in the same condition they came to work that day and they will be able to perform the work without incident. Due to time restraints it is sometimes difficult for companies to take the time to develop the program and add everything they would like to create an excellent functional program. Vital Insight can help develop the safety program in half the amount of time and be sure that it complies to all current legislation. We are able to t rain you on how to efficiently run the program in order to be more productive in filling out the paperwork required and performing the tasks necessary to comply with COR standards.
Not only does your company save on the direct & indirect costs related to incident and injury but with COR you qualify for discounts on your WCB premiums by demonstrating that you are increasing your performance and leading the industry

Many companies do not see the cost effectiveness of implementing a safety program. Most companies see the safety program as a money pit where there is no return. In fact the safety program enforces your employees to work safely thus reducing direct & indirect costs related to incident and injury. Depending on the company performance to date, WCB premiums could be quite high, and without improved performance premiums will still escalate to proportions that can absorb a great deal of company profits or even perhaps close your business.
By using a WCB program called Occupational Injury Service injured workers are sent to designated clinics to get specific treatment for workplace injuries. These clinics help the worker to get faster treatment and therefore faster return to work. If a WCB claim costs less than $1,000.00 then that claims costs does not reflect in the calculation of your premium.
If your claims costs are minimal or stay below $0.00 it drastically reduces the amount of WCB premiums paid out. By implementing a SECOR or COR program this too will save on WCB premiums from 5-20%.
Allow Vital Insight to develop a Disability Management Program for your company in order to start saving money on your WCB premiums today.
