Nova Scotia Farm Technician Level 1

Each module was developed based on the Nova Scotia Occupational Standards (NSOS) and the Farm Technician Curriculum Standard.

18 modules were developed and included in the synchronous and asynchronous learning plan.

To be consistent with content delivery and learning, the modules were developed for both the instructor and the student. This allows for seamless transition from synchronous to asynchronous learning.  It makes it easier for both the instructor and the student to pick up where they left off the previous hour, day, or week.

All 18 modules are labeled with the code and the unit’s name from the Farm Technician Curriculum Standard. This was to ensure the required content for each unit could be accounted for and verified with the Nova Scotia Occupational Standards (NSOS) and the Farm Technician Curriculum Standard.

Each module is broken into two components: sections and elements.  Sections are the main topics as listed in the Farm Technician Curriculum Standard. Elements are the criteria used to deliver the topics in each section.  For example, “FRM 100 Safety” is the name of the module, “Legislation Pertaining to Workplace Hazards & Safe Work Practices” is the name of the section, and “Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations,”, Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Globally Harmonized System (GHS)’ are the names of the elements in the section.

The learning schedule is designed with this language to ensure the instructor and the student can easily navigate the modules.
