Health & Safety Management System Development

The health and safety manual is the basis for any health and safety management system. It allows a company to organize all of its policies and forms in one area for all team members within the company to have access to review the material and comply with all necessary policies, procedures, rules, and legislation.

The health and safety manual acts as an excellent reference for all safety training including new hire orientations, safety meetings, and hazard assessments. The manual needs to be constructed in a clear easy to read format to be an effective safety training tool. Lastly, the manual is the primary source of documentation during an audit. Having a clearly organized health and safety management system and filing system with all the required information allows the audit process go more quickly and smoothly.

The health and safety management system demonstrates to other companies that your company will be able to work in a manner where all of your workers will go home in the same condition they came to work. Due to time restraints, it is sometimes difficult for companies to take the time to develop the program and add everything they would like to create an excellent functional program.

We can help develop the health and safety management system in half the amount of time and be sure that it complies to all current applicable legislation. We train you on how to integrate the program with day to day tasks to be more efficient and comply with COR/SECOR standards.

Not only does your company save on the direct and indirect costs related to incident and injury but with COR/SECOR you qualify for 5-20% discounts on your WCB premiums by demonstrating that you are increasing your safety performance and leading the industry.

Disability Management

Many companies don’t see the cost effectiveness of implementing a health and safety management system. Companies see the health and safety management system as a money pit where there is no return. But in fact, the health and safety management system supports your team to work safely thus reducing direct and indirect costs related to workplace injury.

Depending on the company safety performance to date, insurance premiums could be quite high, and without improved safety performance, premiums will still go up to proportions that can absorb a great deal of company profits or even perhaps close your business.

By using a WCB program called Occupational Injury Service (OIS) injured workers are sent to designated clinics to get specific treatment for workplace injuries. These clinics help the worker to get faster treatment and therefore faster return to work. If WCB claim costs stay within a prescribed threshold, then the claims costs do not reflect in the calculation of your premium. The clinics and premium based calculations may differ from province to province, but the principles are the same.

If your claims costs are minimal or stay below a threshold, it drastically reduces the amount of WCB premiums paid out. By implementing a SECOR or COR health and safety management system or becoming safety certified, this too will save on WCB premiums from 5-20%.

WCB is Workers Compensation Board which is a system of no fault insurance for employers across Canada. No fault insurance means an injured worker, employer, or other party is not able to sue either party for fault or damages. Instead, the injured worker is provided the care and resources needed to return to full or alternate duties. This allows the focus of the worker on getting better rather than trying to figure out where their next pay check may be coming from.

Vital Insight can help manage claims to ensure workers get the right care at the right time to ensure a quicker and safety return to work while at the same time keep claims cost low by using specific OIS clinics who can assist in this process. With the facilitation of disability management through Vital Insight between WCB, the employer, the worker, and the treatment team, the claims process is expedited, and the worker gets the care they need.
